58 percent of iPhones failed between April and June of 2016

What is Backup

Backup specifically for devices such as phones refers to the storage of files and folders in a different location either within the device, another device, or online in a cloud storage with the ability to restore to the original device through a restoration or recovery process.

Some backups just backup files and folders while others backup a snapshot of the entire hard drive which allows bare metal recovery or bootable recovery in a new device.

The most critical time to Backup is before an upgrade.

It’s important to Back Up your iPhone before Upgrading to  iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone X, or iOS 12

There are three popular backup solutions

  • iTunes
  • iCloud
  • Cloudpap iPhone Backup (Acronis True image)

ITunes and iCloud are owned by Apple, Cloudpap iPhone is a hybrid technology made from Acronis backup Technology and Cloudpap cloud storage technology.

Consider using an additional provider to Apple’s iTunes and iCloud.

iCloud iPhone Backup

Allow cloud backup of data via WiFI connection, standard data stored in the iCloud includes:

  • Messages, App data, Photos and Videos, Phone Settings, Ringtones, activities, and purchases on iTunes stores.

Apple provides 5GB free of iCloud Storage per Apple ID. Additional storage space can be purchased for any Apple ID.

iCloud syncs files between the device and cloud storage and therefore a file deleted locally is also deleted on the cloud // see the difference between Backup and Sync (Cloudpap provides Backup and therefore a file deleted on the device can be recovered from the cloud )

Steps for backing up on iCloud:

  1. Get the device connected to a WiFi Network.
  2. Tap on Settings > [your name], and tap iCloud on the device. If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings, then scroll down and tap iCloud.

If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, your path is Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage.
